🍂 Happy October to You All! 🍂

I hope you’re enjoying the new season after a busy, warm, and full-of-sunshine summer.

As I’m beginning this newsletter, it just happens to be at the beginning of the beautiful season of Fall, my favourite season of the year. I feel like I’m starting a new season, and shedding some leaves of sorts. October is a time of thanksgiving, letting love into our lives, and preparing for cozy times at the arrival of colder weather and less sunshine. I have been in kind of a cocoon for the last 3 years, and now I’m opening up and ready to see and experience the world around me in a new way. Grief had a way of completely taking over my life and showing me things about myself, where I needed to heal and change, things I needed to leave behind, things I needed move into, and things I needed to open up to. I have some new ideas for Prairie Sky Natural Healing and I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy sharing them with you.

✏️  Announcement—Classes at the Farm!

Yes! We are starting Classes at the Farm! For those who have taken my Reiki Workshops and also received treatments, you know where the classes will be—same place! My living room is the classroom, and the treatment room is right beside it. Plus the art part will be at the dining room table for now, and soon to be another spot with a large table—the grand piano will be moving in the near future, and a large art table will replace it.

What will the Classes at the Farm be about? The newsletters and the classes will have the same “flavour” to them. The classes will be the “doing” or the “hands on” part of the contents of these newsletters.

When will the Classes at the Farm be? Sundays! The date and time of this one will be announced soon.  These classes may be monthly, or at least “often”.

Five Senses of October

Let’s learn or remember how to open up our awareness. Do you remember? As you heal even one wound, your awareness expands. You become aware of things that are new and different, things you didn’t notice before, you have a “new normal” with each wound you heal (reference pages 15 & 16 of Reiki Level 2 manual).
How do you heal? Use the many possible healing modalities that fit you best: Reiki/energy healing, massage, acupuncture, reflexology, chiropractic, naturopathy, art, journalling, and more…..there’s so many to choose from, combine the ones that fit you best.

As you experience your “new normal”, tune into your 5 senses…

What do you feel and sense in the month of October?
What do you smell?
What are your favourite tastes?
What do you hear?
What do you see?
What do you feel and touch?

Gratitude

October is the perfect month to think about Thanksgiving! After all, that is the special day of this month, October 12.

I invite you to….

1) Take 3 deep, slow breaths.
2) Place your hands on your heart chakra.
3) Close your eyes and let your mind slow down.
4) Ask yourself: What are you grateful for right now in this moment?
5) Ask yourself: What are you grateful for in October?
6) Ask yourself: Who can I show gratitude to in the next few days?
7) Ask yourself: How can I show gratitude to myself?

Did you know….?

The root chakra (the red circle, #1, in the chart below) influences: physical identity, ambition, stability, security, survival, instinct.

When it’s out of balance, you may feel: physically – fatigue, insomnia, lower back pain, sciatica, constipation, depression, immune disorders, obesity.  Emotionally – anger, self esteem issues.

Laughter is the Best Medicine

Mabel, the Pocket Cougar

by Hayley Bauer

Mabel considered herself very mighty.  As mighty as any cougar.  Small for a cougar, but a cougar nonetheless – a pocket size cougar.  Her toys prey consisted of very crafty, difficult-to-catch creatures.  Crumpled paper that could scoot for miles across the hard wood floors, or a jingle ball that would change directions in the blink of an eye.  Or, as rare and elusive as they come, the silver-coated twisty tie.  The silver coated twisty tie could change forms easily, which would affect its speed, sound, and ultimately, Mabel’s ability to catch it. But she always found a way.

Until today.

Mabel didn’t know why the cabinet in the dining room was called the China cabinet. She suspected it was because when her toys went underneath the cabinet, they somehow ended up in China, and that’s why she could never reach them when they went underneath. Only Mom could reach her toys with a special stick that apparently could lure out any prey without fail.

So she sat patiently by the China cabinet, and when Mom passed by, she batted her eyes, and mewed for assistance.

And, as usual, Mom came to her rescue. Sometimes Mom didn’t believe her when Mabel insisted there was something under the China cabinet, but Mabel had yet to be mistaken.

So Mom knelt down with the special stick for the fourth time that day, and retrieved her toys.

And Mabel, the pocket cougar, was off again.

Art—Healing, Using other Parts of Our Brain, Relaxing

Art uses other parts of our brain, than the everyday thinking part. It feels so refreshing to put aside the everyday thinking part of my brain, and let creativity come forth for a little while. I choose art projects that are fun, maybe a little challenging, or not, depending on the day. And when I put aside the everyday thinking part of my brain, I can relax into the creativity part, and that feels very good in my body, mind, and heart.

I have come upon a fun discovery with art! Her name is Andrea Nelson and I found her on YouTube. She is a great art teacher, mostly of watercolour, but not exclusively. She’s taught me to chill out and have fun with art. I have chosen two projects we will do at the in-person class.

I’ve also included the links below for you to check them out, and I hope you’ll have fun doing them at home!
